On the Imperial Birthday, ascending the hall, [the Master] said: "'The mind is identical to the realm of empty space; it reveals dharmas equal to empty space. When one realizes empty space, there is neither truth nor non-truth.' Since there is neither true dharma nor non-true dharma, it is called the unexcelled fruit of Buddhahood, bodhi; it is also called true suchness, buddha-nature; it is also called mahā-prajñāpāramitā. Therefore it is said: 'Prajñāpāramitā can give birth to all the dharmas of the buddhas; it can accomplish all the bodhisattvas' dharmas of liberation; it can accomplish the unexcelled dharmas of kings; it can accomplish the dharmas of what sentient beings perform.' For example, the mani jewel's substance is complete with all virtues: it can subdue venomous dragons and all evil ghosts and spirits, and can grant according to wish whatever people's minds seek. And what is this matter of fulfilling wishes? Stepping down from the seat, together with the great assembly, we will proceed to the Great Buddha Hall to inaugurate the Tianshen Imperial Birthday. Respectfully spoken."
