草堂侍立晦堂，晦堂舉風幡話問草堂，堂云：「逈無入處。」晦堂云：「汝見世間猫捕鼠乎？雙目瞪視而不瞬，四足踞地而不動，六根順向，首尾一直，然後舉無不中。誠能心無異緣，意絕妄想，六窓寂靜端坐默究，萬不失一也。」

When Caotang was attending upon Huitang, Huitang brought up the topic of the wind and the banner and questioned Caotang. Caotang said, "There is utterly no entry point." Huitang said, "Have you seen a cat catching a rat in the world? Its eyes stare without blinking; its four feet crouch on the ground without moving; its six sense faculties are aligned toward it; from head to tail it forms a single straight line; only then does it strike, never failing to hit. If you can truly keep your mind free of alien conditions, sever delusional thoughts in your intent, sit upright in quietude at the six windows and silently investigate, you will not miss once in ten thousand times."
