僧問：「正法眼藏，破顏微笑，密付飲光，涅槃妙心。三拜歸位，獨傳二祖，一花五葉，遍界芬芳。當恁麼時，的的相承一句作麼生道？」師云：「須彌頂上浪滔天。」進云：「大千俱揑聚，祖令正當行。」師云：「雲從龍，風從虎。」進云：「中興此道正在今時，未審和尚將何祝聖？」師云：「常將日月為天眼，指出須彌作壽山。」進云：「恁麼則舜日堯風無盡時。」師云：「滿口道著。」進云：「世尊拈花，迦葉微笑，意旨如何？」師云：「車不橫推，理無曲斷。」進云：「世尊道：『吾有正法眼藏，分付摩訶大迦葉。』又作麼生？」師云：「蠱毒之家水莫甞。」進云：「只如和尚見應庵，分付个什麼？」師云：「一物也無。」進云：「爭奈破砂盆何？」師云：「一人傳虛，萬人傳實。」僧禮拜。師云：「切忌妄通消息。」

A monk asked: "The Treasury of the True Dharma Eye, the smile breaking across the face, secretly entrusted to the Drinker of Light, the wondrous mind of nirvāṇa. Making three bows and returning to his place, singly transmitted to the Second Patriarch, one flower with five petals, its fragrance filling the world. At just such a time, how do you say a phrase of true inheritance?" The Master said: "Atop the peak of Sumeru, the billows surge to the heavens." The monk continued: "The great chiliocosm is gathered in the palm; the ancestral decree is being executed right now." The Master said: "Clouds follow the dragon; wind follows the tiger." The monk continued: "Revitalizing this Way is precisely in this present time; I wonder how the Venerable will congratulate the Emperor?" The Master said: "Always taking the sun and moon as the heavenly eye, pointing out Sumeru as the mountain of longevity." The monk continued: "In that case, the sun of Shun and the wind of Yao will have no end." The Master said: "A mouthful fully stated." The monk continued: "When the Bhagavat held up the flower and Kāśyapa smiled, what was the meaning?" The Master said: "A cart is not pushed sideways; principle does not allow crooked judgments." The monk continued: "The Bhagavat said: 'I have the Treasury of the True Dharma Eye, which I entrust to Mahākāśyapa.' What about that?" The Master said: "Do not taste the water in a house of virulent poison." The monk continued: "As for the Venerable meeting Ying'an, what did he entrust to you?" The Master said: "Not a single thing." The monk continued: "What can be done about the broken earthen basin?" The Master said: "One person transmits falsehood, ten thousand people transmit it as truth." The monk bowed. The Master said: "By all means avoid recklessly communicating news."
