結夏上堂：「二千年前舊公案，今日拈來重剖判，任是鐵眼與銅睛，也須更入紅爐煅。眾中忽有箇不受人瞞底，出來道：『盡大地是箇紅爐也煅某甲不破。』只向他道：『我也知爾向鬼窟裏作活計。』」

Ascending the hall for the summer retreat, [the Master] said, "The old gong'an from two thousand years ago is brought up today to be dissected and analyzed anew. Even if one has eyes of iron and pupils of bronze, one must still enter the red-hot furnace to be forged again. If someone in the assembly who refuses to be deceived by others suddenly steps forward and says, 'The entire great earth is a red-hot furnace, yet it cannot shatter me through forging,' I will simply say to him, 'I already know you are making a livelihood inside a ghost cave.'"
