上堂，舉：「玄沙問鏡清：『不見一法是大過患，汝道不見是什麼法？』清指露柱云：『莫是不見遮箇法麼？』沙云：『淛中清水白米從汝喫，佛法未夢見在。』」師云：「二尊宿驀劄相逢，大似小兒則劇相似，佛法身心何在？先應菴拈云：『鏡清放頑，佛也不奈伊何，若不是玄沙識破，幾被露柱吞却。』」師喝云：「若教頻下淚，東海也須乾。」

Ascending the hall, [the Master] cited: "Xuansha asked Jingqing, 'Not seeing a single dharma is a great fault and calamity. Tell me, what dharma is not seen?' Jingqing pointed to an exposed pillar and said, 'Could it be that this dharma is not seen?' Xuansha said, 'Clear water and white rice in Zhejiang are yours to eat, but you haven't even dreamed of the Buddha Dharma yet.'"
The Master said, "When the two venerable masters unexpectedly met, it was very much like children playing games; where were the body and mind of the Buddha Dharma? The late Ying'an brought this up and said, 'Jingqing was acting stubborn; even the Buddha could do nothing with him. Had Xuansha not seen through him, he would almost have been swallowed up by the exposed pillar.'"
The Master gave a shout and said, "If made to shed tears frequently, even the Eastern Sea must run dry."
