上堂，舉：「僧問趙州：『澄澄絕點時如何？』州云：『猶是人家客作漢。』」師云：「遮僧置箇問端不妨嶮峻，爭奈趙州有起膏肓底手段。雖然如是，總落在天童手裏。畢竟如何？」喝一喝，下座。

Ascending the hall, [the Master] cited: "A monk asked Zhaozhou, 'How is it when completely clear and spotless?' Zhaozhou said, 'Still a hired laborer in someone else's house.'"
The Master said, "This monk raised a line of questioning that was undeniably precipitous, but how could that match Zhaozhou's method for reviving the terminally ill? Even so, both fall into Tiantong's hands. Ultimately, how is it?"
He gave a shout and descended from the seat.
