When Vice Minister Li entered the mountain, [the master] ascended the hall: "A secluded bird's cry breaks through the nāga samādhi, and immediately the literary star is seen entering the temple. Slipping on shoes backward to greet him at the gate, smiling faces beam; the forests and springs suddenly stir with wind and thunder. Where wind and thunder arise, ten thousand peaks come to life with spring; the correct eye is clearly illuminated, and the ten directions of space are seamless. In hand, he holds the sun and moon of Confucius; at his waist, he wears the efficacious tally of the Buddhas and Patriarchs. Everywhere he is an auspicious sign, a tortoise shell and a mirror, a fortress wall for the dharma-gates, and an arm and leg for the royal house. This is neither supernatural wonder nor things naturally as they are. Why is this so? Ever since treading through the thousand divergent paths, he walks directly atop the head of Vairocana."
