在家不讀書，行脚不參禪，隨流閑打閧，掘地覓青天。而今老矣方知悔，揑人痛處力加鞭。

At home he did not study books; on pilgrimage he did not practice Chan.
Drifting with the crowd, he idly joined the fray, digging in the ground to search for the blue sky.
Only now, grown old, does he know regret, pinching others where it hurts and vigorously applying the whip.
