曹溪一滴，源深流長，至于臨濟，
其道益張。如擊石火，如閃電光，
不離當處，覿面承當。猗歟傑公，
直造其堂，行解相應，非斷非常。
一音演暢，七坐道場，眾生病惱，
我為醫王；眾生沈溺，我為舟航。
坐斷報化，不涉周章，聞者見者，
踊躍騰驤，疑情頓釋，如葉殞霜。
宗風不墜，繄師棟梁，名滿天下，
若為蓋藏？作奇特會，空費商量，
此一轉語，為師舉揚。

A single drop from Caoxi,
Its source deep, its flow long;
Reaching Linji,
Its Way expanded even more.
Like sparks from struck flint, like a flash of lightning,
Not departing from the immediate spot,
Directly undertaking it face to face.
O how magnificent is Master Jie,
Who went straight into its hall!
Practice and understanding corresponded;
Neither annihilationist nor eternalist.
Expounding with a single voice,
He occupied the bodhimaṇḍa seven times.
When sentient beings suffer from illness and affliction,
I am the King of Healers;
When sentient beings are drowning,
I am the vessel and boat.
Cutting off the reward and transformation bodies,
Without involving circuitous detours,
Those who heard and saw it
Leaped and bounded with joy;
Doubts were suddenly resolved,
Like leaves falling before the frost.
The lineage's style has not fallen,
For the Master was its pillar and beam.
His name filled all under heaven—
How could it be hidden?
To understand it as something extraordinary
Is a waste of deliberation;
This single turning phrase
Is raised and praised for the Master.
