約齋居士張鎡，常參學於師。師亡，復經紀其後事。其他嗣法者數十輩，而了悟、崇岳尤傑然者也。邲効官中都，與師相見，或道話終日，亹亹忘倦，別去數以書相聞，臨寂又以書為別。既葬，參學弟子慧光以塔銘為請，辭之請益堅，乃為之銘曰：

Layman Yuezhai, Zhang Zi, frequently studied under the Master. When the Master passed away, he also managed his funeral affairs. There were several dozen other dharma heirs, among whom Liaowu and Chongyue were especially prominent. While serving as an official in the capital, I, Bi, met with the Master; sometimes we discussed the Way all day long, untiring in our enthusiasm. When we parted, we frequently communicated by letters, and on the verge of his quiescence he sent another letter to bid farewell. After he was interred, his disciple Huiguang requested a stūpa inscription; though I declined, his request became even firmer, so I composed the following inscription:
