On the winter solstice, ascending the hall: "The sun reaches the southernmost point on the winter solstice, a celebration where nothing is unfavorable. Stone bamboo shoots secretly sprout shoots; cold crags take on warmth. Old Man Wang of the eastern village is half drunk and half sober; the person of the Way under the trees has neither handle nor clue." Suddenly taking up his staff, he said: "If someone penetrates to the root and source here, it is better than Dīpaṃkara personally bestowing the prophecy." Throwing down his staff, he descended from the seat.
