1.73

上堂：「一切數句非數句，與吾靈覺何交涉？毒蛇鑽入爾鼻孔，蝦蟇咬破爾眼睛。且喚什麼作靈覺？有般漢東西不辨南北不分，便道：『經行及坐臥𠰒，喫粥喫飯𠰒。』正是喚奴作郎、認賊為子。蔣山直截與諸人道却，毘婆尸佛早留心，直至而今不得妙。」

Ascending the hall: "All propositions of number and non-number—what connection have they with my numinous awareness? A venomous snake crawls into your nostrils, a toad bites your eyes to pieces. And what do you call numinous awareness? There is a sort of fellow who cannot distinguish east from west or north from south, and says: 'Walking, standing, sitting, and lying down, oh! Eating gruel and eating rice, oh!' This is precisely calling a servant boy the master, mistaking a thief for one's son. Jiangshan speaks directly to you all: Vipaśyin Buddha paid attention to this early on, yet down to the present day has not attained its subtlety."
