上堂：「涼飈乍起，玉露初垂，蟬噪高梧，蛩吟古砌，發揮臨濟在黃檗處，喫棒底意旨，誰肯承當？直饒言外知歸，也是秤椎蘸醋。」

Ascending the hall: "Cool breezes suddenly rise, jade dew begins to fall. Cicadas chirp in the tall parasol trees; crickets sing by the ancient stone steps. Setting forth the intent of Linji's receiving blows at Huangbo's place—who is willing to take it upon themselves? Even if you recognize the destination beyond words, it is still dipping a steelyard weight in vinegar."
