上堂：「言而足，終日言而盡道；言而不足，終日言而盡物。且道，道與物是一是二？若道是一，為甚麼客山高、主山低？若道是二，為甚麼天地一指、萬物一馬？箇裏緇素得出，還爾草鞋錢。不然，但願來年蠶麥熟，羅睺羅兒與一文。」

Ascending the hall: "When words are sufficient, speaking all day long exhausts the Way; when words are insufficient, speaking all day long exhausts things. Tell me, are the Way and things one or two? If you say they are one, why is the guest mountain high and the host mountain low? If you say they are two, why are heaven and earth a single finger, and the ten thousand things a single horse? If you can discern the black from the white in this, I will repay your straw-sandal money. If not, I only hope that next year the silkworms and wheat ripen, and I will give child Rāhula a single coin."
