結夏小參：「等是恁麼時節，何不便領取去？西天廣額旃陀羅，放下屠刀，『我是千佛一數。』可殺性燥。若約衲僧門下，猶是半提，而況立期立限，坐守化城，比擬張麟，兔亦不遇。息畊[(宋-木)/火/ㄆ]尋常，多是向三句前兩句後放一線地，與諸人整頓手脚。若也知慚識愧，九十日內，不得忘却老僧。」

Informal gathering for entering the summer retreat: "Being precisely such a season, why not directly take hold of it and go? In the Western Heaven, the caṇḍāla Broad Forehead laid down his butcher's knife, [saying,] 'I am one of the thousand Buddhas.' How exceedingly impetuous! If measured by the standard of the patch-robed monks' school, this is still only a half-presentation. How much more so for setting terms and imposing limits, sitting and guarding an illusory city; comparing oneself to hunting a qilin, one does not even encounter a rabbit! Usually, this old monk Xigeng mostly opens up a line of ground before the three phrases and after the two phrases to let you all settle your hands and feet. If you truly know shame and recognize remorse, within these ninety days you must not forget this old monk."
