元宵上堂：「今夜處處燒燈，以享上帝。萬松隨例，也燒一椀，普請四聖六凡，同入此影子裏，頭出頭沒。設有不入底，拈起德山杖子，劈脊便打。何故？過去燈明佛，本光瑞如此。」

Ascending the hall for the Lantern Festival: "Tonight, lanterns are burned everywhere to make offerings to the Lord on High. Following the custom, Wansong also burns a single bowl, universally inviting the four kinds of sages and six kinds of ordinary beings to enter this shadow together, popping their heads out and sinking in. Should there be someone who does not enter, I will take up Deshan's staff and strike him right across the back. Why? The original auspicious light of the past Buddha Dīpaṅkara was just like this."
