上堂，舉：「古德因僧問：『如何是冬來事？』德云：『京師出大黃。』」師云：「金以石試，人以言試，古人自謂全璧而歸，不知身在草裏。」

Ascending the hall, he cited: "An ancient worthy was asked by a monk, 'What is the matter of winter's coming?' The worthy said, 'The capital produces rhubarb.'" The Master said: "Gold is tested by touchstone; a person is tested by words. The ancient person considered himself to have returned with the jade intact, unaware that his body was in the weeds."
