上堂，謝執事：「松有操則歲寒不凋，竹有節則虛心澹靜，衲子勇於義，可以表率叢林、游刃事海，自然左右逢其原。」

Ascending the hall, he thanked the administrative monks: "If a pine has integrity, it does not wither in the cold of the year; if a bamboo has joints, it is hollow-hearted, calm, and quiet. If a patch-robed monk is courageous in righteousness, he can serve as a model for the monastic community and handle affairs with skilled ease, naturally finding the source wherever he turns."
