Ascending the hall, a monk asked, "When a monk asked Yunmen, 'If not a single thought arises, is there still any fault?', Yunmen said, 'Mount Sumeru.' What is the meaning of this?" The Master said, "Buying iron and getting gold." The monk said, "The upādhyāya has spent his life humiliating the ancients; why do you completely approve of Yunmen today?" The Master said, "Applying a flame to a cold place." The monk asked, "The student has rushed about outside the whole winter; is there still any fault?" The Master said, "The steelyard weight falls into a well." The monk said, "So many donations have returned to the permanent property; why is there not the slightest bit of merit?" The Master said, "Do not come to cover up your blunders before me."
