復舉：「晦堂因看如何是多福一叢竹，一莖兩莖斜，學人不會，三莖四莖曲，驀然契悟。」師云：「往往多是知竹而不知多福，知多福而不知竹。有人緇素得出，許爾親見晦堂。」

He also cited: "Huitang, because he looked at [the case of Duofu]: 'What is Duofu's single clump of bamboo?' [Duofu replied,] 'One stalk or two stalks lean; the student does not understand; three stalks or four stalks bend'—he suddenly realized enlightenment." The master said, "Often, most know the bamboo but do not know Duofu, or they know Duofu but do not know the bamboo. If someone can distinguish black from white, I will acknowledge that you have personally seen Huitang."
