2.14

上堂，舉：「晏國師示眾云：『鼓山門下不得咳嗽。』時有僧咳嗽一聲，山云：『作甚麼？』僧云：『傷風。』山云：『傷風即得。』」師云：「是則是，垛生招箭，若一向與麼，道絕人荒。」

Ascending the hall, [the Master] cited: "National Teacher Yan addressed the assembly, saying: 'Under the gate of Gushan, coughing is not permitted.' At that time a monk coughed once. Gushan said, 'What was that?' The monk said, 'I have caught a cold.' Gushan said, 'Catching a cold is all right.'"
The Master said: "Right though it is, setting up a target invites arrows. If it were always like this, the Way would be cut off and people desolate."
