上堂，僧問：「久雨不晴時如何？」師云：「逢庚則變。」僧云：「久雨忽晴時如何？」師云：「處處可以晒眼皮草。」僧云：「與麼答話，諸方未肯在。」師云：「割鷄之刃。」僧云：「二祖禮三拜依位而立。」師云：「呈漆器。」僧云：「達磨云：『汝得吾髓。』」師云：「覆水難收。」僧云：「學人纔見和尚陞堂，便出禮拜，得箇甚麼？」師云：「他時不得退欵。」僧云：「且喜水米無交。」師云：「早是退欵了也。」僧便喝，師亦喝。

Ascending the hall, a monk asked, "When it rains for a long time without clearing up, how is it?" The master said, "When encountering geng, it changes." The monk said, "When it rains for a long time and suddenly clears up, how is it?" The master said, "Everywhere one can dry the eyelid grass." The monk said, "With such an answer, the various regions would not yet approve." The master said, "A blade for carving a chicken." The monk said, "The Second Patriarch made three prostrations and stood according to his position." The master said, "Presenting lacquerware." The monk said, "Bodhidharma said: 'You have attained my marrow.'" The master said, "Spilled water is hard to gather." The monk said, "As soon as this student saw the upādhyāya ascend the hall, I came forth and bowed—what did I get?" The master said, "At another time you may not retract your statement." The monk said, "Fortunately, water and rice have had no contact." The master said, "You have already retracted your statement." The monk shouted. The master also shouted.
