2.57

乃云：「水牯子數日來，不忺水草，蓋牧之無功也。若言一回入草去，驀鼻拽將來，此又未是牧牛之法。且作麼生牧？」擊禪床云：「叱叱叱，者畜生。」

He then said, "For several days, the water buffalo has had no appetite for water and grass; this is because herding it has been of no effect. If you say that once it enters the weeds, you yank it out by the nostrils, this is not yet the method of herding an ox either. Well, how should it be herded?" Striking the meditation couch, he said, "Tsk, tsk, tsk! You brute!"
