佛生日上堂，僧問：「鐵壁鐵壁，號之曰佛，常在苦海中立，只如今日降生底是？苦海中立底是？」師云：「二俱不是。」僧云：「天上天下唯我獨尊聻？」師云：「脫却籠頭卸角馱。」僧云：「恁麼則三尺一丈六，且同携手歸。」師云：「爾道他有幾莖蓋膽毛？」僧便喝，師亦喝。

Ascending the hall on the Buddha's birthday, a monk asked: "'Iron wall, iron wall, named Buddha, constantly standing in the sea of suffering.'
