上堂：「人人知有此一段生死底話頭，至於進退揖讓語言酬酢，歷歷分曉，因甚困去，便不知落處？設有能作夢中佛事者，猶如暗中取物。且道病在那裏？今日徑山不惜眉毛，普為諸人去此障礙，使俱到平實田地，受用無窮。還信得及麼？」卓主丈：「自携瓶去沽村酒，却著衫來作主人。」

Ascending the hall: "Everyone knows there is this single matter of birth and death; as for advancing, retreating, bowing, gesturing, and conversing in words, they are distinct and clear. Why is it that when exhausted, they do not know where they fall? Even if there are those who can perform Buddha-works in a dream, it is still like taking objects in the dark. Tell me, where does the illness lie? Today Jingshan does not spare his eyebrows to remove this hindrance generally for all of you, so that you may all reach the level, solid ground and enjoy inexhaustible use. Can you truly believe it?" Striking his staff, he said: "Carrying the jar oneself to buy village wine, / then putting on robes to act as the host."
