3.26

仗錫和尚至，上堂，舉：「盤山似地擎山，不知山之孤峻；如石含玉，不知玉之無瑕。若能如是，是真出家。」師云：「盤山其實只要出家兒萬法不相到。山僧昔寄霞谷，與棘林老子也如是，別去一十餘年，今日相見亦如是。且道，其中意作麼生？」卓主丈：「如是如是而已矣。」

When the Venerable Zhangxi arrived, the master ascended the hall and brought up: "Panshan said: 'Like the earth holding up a mountain, unaware of the mountain's solitary steepness; like a stone containing jade, unaware of the jade's lack of blemish. If one can be like this, that is true renunciation.'" The master said: "Panshan actually only wanted those who renounce household life not to let the ten thousand dharmas reach each other. When this mountain monk lodged at Xiagu in the past, it was just like this with the old fellow of Jilin; after parting for more than ten years, meeting today is also like this. And tell me, what is the meaning in this?" Striking his staff, he said: "Like this, like this—that is all."
