巖頭示眾：「大凡唱教，須從無欲中流出三句，只是理論，咬去咬住，欲去不去，欲住不住，或時一向不去，或時一向不住。」

Yantou instructed the assembly: "Generally speaking, when preaching the teachings, they must flow forth from desirelessness. The three phrases are merely theoretical discourse. Biting off and holding fast, wishing to go yet not going, wishing to stay yet not staying, or at times going completely, or at times staying completely."
