5.127

巖頭因沙汰，在甘贄家過夏。補衣次，贄行過，頭以針作劄勢，贄遂整衣欲謝，妻問云：「作甚麼？」贄云：「說不得。」妻云：「也要大家知。」贄舉前話，妻云：「此去三十年後，須知一回飲水一回噎。」女子聞云：「誰知盡大地人性命，被奯上座針鋒上劄將去也。」

Because of the purge of Buddhism, Yantou spent the summer at the home of Gan Zhi. While he was mending robes, Zhi walked past. Yantou made a thrusting gesture with his needle. Zhi then adjusted his robes and was about to bow in thanks. His wife asked: "What are you doing?" Zhi said: "It cannot be spoken." His wife said: "Everyone should know as well." Zhi cited the previous words. His wife said: "Thirty years from now, you must know that every drink of water will bring a choke." Their daughter heard this and said: "Who would have known that the lives of everyone on the whole earth have been thrust away on the tip of Elder Huo's needle!"
