洞山聰和尚，甞自負柴上山，路逢一僧問：「山上有柴，何故將去？」山放柴於地云：「會麼？」僧云：「不會。」山云：「我要燒。」

Upādhyāya Cong of Dongshan once carried firewood up the mountain himself. On the road he met a monk who asked: "There is firewood on the mountain; why are you taking it up?" Dongshan put the firewood down on the ground and said: "Do you understand?" The monk said: "I do not understand." Dongshan said: "I want to burn it."
