保寧勇和尚示眾：「釋迦老子，四十九年說法，不曾道著一字。優波毱多，丈室盈籌，不曾度得一人。達磨不居少室，六祖不住曹溪，誰是後昆，誰為先覺？」

Upādhyāya Baoning Yong instructed the assembly: "Old Śākya expounded the Dharma for forty-nine years, yet never spoke a single word. Upagupta filled his abbot's room with tallies, yet never delivered a single person. Bodhidharma did not dwell at Shaoshi; the Sixth Patriarch did not abide at Caoxi. Who are the descendants? Who are the foremost awakened?"
