師乃云：「臨濟栽松，老盧蹈碓，仰山畬粟，地藏種田，顯一段衲子家風，作叢林千古標準。二林到此因甚顛毛卓竪？」擊拂子：「曾經巴峽猿啼處，鐵作心肝也斷腸。」

The Master then said: "Linji planted pines; Old Lu tread the pestle; Yangshan cleared fields for millet; Dizang cultivated the fields. They manifested a stretch of the patch-robed monk's family tradition, serving as standards for the monasteries for thousands of ages. Arriving here, why do the hairs of the Two Groves stand on end?" He struck with his whisk: "Passing through the place where the gibbons cry in the Ba Gorges, even hearts and livers of iron would be broken."
