8.74

復舉：「五祖演和尚道：『我者裏是皮栲栳禪，從虛空撲下來也跳幾跳，不比諸方琉璃甕子禪。』」師云：「五祖老手舊𩨘膊，淨慈鷄皮鼓子不勞重擊。有般漢便道：『虛堂年老心孤。』殊不知，富嫌千口少，貧恨一身多。」

He cited again: "Upādhyāya Wuzu Yan said: 'Mine here is leather-basket Chan: when dropped from empty space, it still bounces a few times, unlike the glass-jar Chan of other places.'" The Master said: "Wuzu was an old hand with old shoulders; Jingci's chicken-skin drum needs no heavy beat. Some fellows might say: 'Xutang is old and his heart is lonely.' Little do they know: the rich begrudge a thousand mouths as too few; the poor resent having even a single body."
