次日上堂，舉：「溈山問仰山：『子一夏不上來公案。』」師拈云：「溈山家法森嚴，只是仰山不合道著祖諱，至今不了。會得，一夏亦不虛過；不然，路途巇嶮，各宜保之。」

The next day, ascending the hall, he cited: "The gong'an of Guishan asking Yangshan: 'You did not come up for an entire summer.'" The Master brought this up and said: "Guishan's family tradition was strict, but Yangshan should not have uttered the ancestor's taboo name; even now it is unsettled. If you understand, this summer retreat has not been spent in vain; if not, the road ahead is perilous, so each of you must take care."
