8.90

臘八上堂：「棄萬乘尊榮，受六年饑凍，不離草坐，成等正覺，美則美矣，無端道：『於臘月八夜，忽覩明星，豁然大悟。』致令後代兒孫，東卜西卜。淨慈與麼告報。還與黃面老子有相見分麼？」卓主丈：「晴乾開雨路，無事設曹司。」

Ascending the hall on the eighth day of the twelfth month: "Renouncing the honor of ten thousand chariots, enduring six years of hunger and cold, not leaving his grass seat, he realized equal and right enlightenment. Fine, it was indeed fine; but for no reason he said: 'On the night of the eighth day of the twelfth month, I suddenly beheld the bright star and had a great awakening.' This caused later descendants to divine east and divine west. In reporting this thus, does Jingci have any share of meeting the yellow-faced old fellow?" He struck with his staff: "When it is clear and dry, opening a rain drain; when there is no business, setting up an official bureau."
