謝馬安人捨僧堂禪床四十座及尼師，上堂，僧問：「如何是祖師西來意？」師云：「一鏃破三關，分明箭後路。」僧云：「有僧問趙州：『如何是祖師西來意？』州云：『庭前柏樹子。』此意如何？」師云：「為人方便勝修行。」僧云：「有僧問雲門：『不起一念，還有過也無？』門云：『須彌山。』又作麼生？」師云：「蘇武持漢節而歸。」僧禮拜。

Ascending the hall to thank Lady Ma for donating forty meditation benches for the saṃgha hall and to the bhikṣuṇīs, a monk asked: "What is the intention of the Patriarch coming from the west?" The master said: "A single arrowhead breaks through the three barriers, clearly marking the path behind the arrow." The monk said: "A monk asked Zhaozhou: 'What is the intention of the Patriarch coming from the west?' Zhou said: 'The cypress tree in front of the courtyard.' What is the meaning of this?" The master said: "Expedient means for people surpass cultivation." The monk said: "A monk asked Yunmen: 'When not a single thought arises, is there still any fault?' Yunmen said: 'Mount Sumeru.' What about this?" The master said: "Su Wu returns holding the Han imperial tally." The monk bowed.
