9.18

上堂，舉：「雲門示眾：『三乘十二分教，達磨西來，放過則不可。』後來雪竇大師舉了，隨後喝云：『大眾，好喝落在什麼處？若要鼻孔遼天，須是辨取者一喝。』」拈云：「二大士承承家法，殊不知，有滲漏處。徑山則不然，若要鼻孔遼天，直須去此一喝。」

Ascending the hall, he cited: "Yunmen instructed the assembly: 'The three vehicles and twelve divisions of the teachings, and Bodhidharma coming from the West—to let them pass is unacceptable.' Later, Great Master Xuedou cited this, immediately followed with a shout, and said: 'Assembly! Where does this fine shout land? If you want your nostrils to face the heavens, you must distinguish this single shout.'" He brought it up and said: "The two great beings inherited the family style, but did not realize there was a place of leakage. Jingshan is not so: if you want your nostrils to face the heavens, you must eliminate this single shout."
