元宵上堂：「朝家元日郊禮，天地開泰，聖天子感而放燈一月，以享上帝，輦轂之下，青紅碧綠，巷陌如晝。禪門中亦有五燈，有傳燈、廣燈、普燈、續燈、聯燈，燈燈相續，循環無盡。且道，徑山是什麼燈？」卓主丈：「牆壁有耳。」

Ascending the hall on the Lantern Festival: "With the court's New Year suburban sacrifice, heaven and earth open in peace. The sage Son of Heaven, deeply moved, releases the lanterns for a month to make offering to the Lord on High. Beneath the imperial carriages, blue, red, azure, and green—the streets and lanes are like broad daylight. Within the Chan gate there are also five lamps: the Transmission of the Lamp, the Extensive Lamp, the Universal Lamp, the Continued Lamp, and the Linked Lamp. Lamp after lamp succeeds one another, cycling endlessly. Tell me, what lamp is Jingshan?" Striking the staff, he said: "The walls have ears."
