9.38

上堂。舉：「見見之時，見非是見，見猶離見，見不能及。」拈云：「黃面老子，其實要汝諸人不執，方歸乎中道。殊不知，雕砂無鏤玉之功。徑山不惜口業，今日作一句子，與諸人解註去也。」擊拂子。

Ascending the hall, he cited: "'When seeing seeing, seeing is not seeing; seeing still transcends seeing; seeing cannot reach it.'" He took this up and said: "The yellow-faced old fellow truly wished you all not to grasp, and only then return to the Middle Way. Little did he realize that carving sand lacks the merit of engraving jade. Jingshan will not spare mouth-karma; today I will produce a phrase to offer a commentary for you all." He struck the whisk.
