He brought up again: "Great Master Mazu asked Yaoshan, 'What is your view these days?' Yaoshan said, 'Skin and flesh have completely sloughed off; there is only one true reality.' The Patriarch said, 'What you have attained may be said to accord with the essence of mind and spread to the four limbs. Since it is so, why not bind your belly with three bamboo strips and go live in the mountains anywhere you please?' Yaoshan said, 'Who am I to dare speak of living in the mountains?' The Patriarch said, 'None walk for long without dwelling; none dwell for long without walking. Desiring to benefit, there is nothing to benefit; desiring to act, there is nothing to do. You should make a raft and ferry; do not dwell here for long.'" The Master said: "Great Master Mazu borrowed someone else's fist to deliver a strike, laying a curse on another's sons and daughters. Tell me, why did Yaoshan refuse to become Mazu's heir? Come forward and give a turning phrase to see! If not, tomorrow night I will ask the head monk to expose it before the assembly."
