The Master entered the monastery and ascended the hall, saying: "When going, stepping on snow was like when coming; / On the journey of coming and going, one color is confusing. / Wondrously attaining the body's turn, guest is host; / The ancestral house's correct command is completely handed over. Good Chan practitioners! Three years ago I stayed here as a guest, and was deeply indebted to the monastery for its hospitality. Today I come again responding to conditions to sweep and sprinkle, entirely relying on the assembly's power of the Way for shade and protection, getting through the days. Virtuous practitioners! Going, one does not go out the door; coming, one does not enter the gate. Lean and emaciated, the mountain has bones; leisurely and indifferent, the cloud has no roots. Returning home to serve the ancestors; completing the affair, hand it over to children and grandchildren. Clouds and water, travelers of open ways, mutually pledge to repay the Buddha's kindness. Just as for the great awakening of the World-Honoured One's kindness that equals empty space and pervades the Dharma realm, how is it to be repaid? Do you fully understand? The beardless lock plays with its head hidden; / The broken-legged caldron is held up by an outstretched hand."
