冬節上堂云。律樞機轉。卦象爻分。陰中之陽。雖生而未兆。寂中之用。雖照而彌虛。到這裡。須是總生殺之權衡。當動靜之會要。諸人還體悉得麼。良久云。夜明簾外主。不落偏正方。

Ascending the hall on the winter solstice, he said: "The pivot of the pitch-pipes turns; the hexagram images and their lines divide. The yang within yin is born though not yet portended; the function within stillness illuminates though increasingly empty. Arriving here, one must hold the balance of life and death in full and meet the essential juncture of movement and stillness. Do all of you thoroughly comprehend?" After a good while, he said: "The master outside the curtain of night's illumination does not fall into the positions of biased or upright."
