師在東林上堂云。好諸禪德。鎖斷眾流。雪雲同色。放行一線。塵剎空身。借位明功。不礙隨方作主。回塗復妙。何妨觸處為家。頭頭和合因緣。恰恰現成公案。所以古人道。周遍十方心。不在一切處。諸人還委悉麼。良久云。幽洞不拘關鎖意。縱橫那涉兩頭人。

Ascending the hall while at Donglin, the master said: "Noble Chan worthies! Locking shut the manifold streams, the snow and clouds are of one colour. Letting a single thread go, dust realms are an empty body. Borrowing position to illuminate function does not hinder acting as master according to circumstances. Returning to the path is wondrous once more; why obstruct making a home wherever one touches? Every single circumstance is a combination of causes and conditions; directly, it is a ready-made public case (kōan). Therefore the ancients said: 'The mind pervading the ten directions is not in all places.' Do all of you understand?" After a good while, he said: "The secluded cavern is not bound by the intent to latch and lock; crisscrossing, how could it involve a person of the two extremes?"
