四月八日上堂云。碧琉璃色水澄清。紫磨金光身瑩明。洗淨方知不受垢。釋迦老子此時生。若也恁麼行履。過去未來現在諸佛。是恁麼時生。恁麼時沐浴。其或未然。蹉過了也。非唯二千八十年。何翅三生六十劫。

On the eighth day of the fourth month, ascending the hall, he said: "The colour of blue lapis lazuli, the water is clear and pure; / with the radiance of purple-refined gold, the body is translucent and bright. / Only when washed clean does one know it receives no defilement; / old man Śākyamuni was born at this very time. If one conducts oneself like this, then when were the buddhas of past, future, and present born? At what time did they bathe? If it is not yet so, you have missed it by a long way—not merely two thousand and eighty years, how much more than three lifetimes and sixty kalpas!"
