真州天寧琳長老。下法嗣書。師上堂云。五葉一花。不是尋常春力。十方一色。何曾特地莊嚴。瑠璃地上轉機。明月堂前移步。正恁麼時。子有就父之功。資有合師之道。諸人還體悉得麼。良久云。玉籠放出千年鶴。妙辨初移一步時。

When Elder Lin of Tianning in Zhenzhou sent the letter of Dharma succession, the master ascended the hall and said: "Five petals and one flower—this is not ordinary spring power. The ten directions are of one colour—when was it ever specially adorned? Turning the mechanism upon the ground of lapis lazuli; shifting steps in front of the hall of the bright moon. Right at such a time, the child has the merit of approaching the father; the disciple has the way of uniting with the master. Do all of you thoroughly comprehend?" After a good while, he said: "Releasing the thousand-year crane from the jade cage, / wondrously distinguishing the moment the first step is moved."
