The master gave an informal gathering to instruct the assembly, saying: "Brothers, the loom-threads do not catch: the wooden figure secretly casts the golden shuttle. Before the decorative pattern is manifest, the stone woman first lifts the jade seal. How could the wondrously bright ground involve spring conditions? How could the empty and lustrous pavilion pertain to morning sentiments? The upright is not isolated: before the wind, in the moonlit trees, apes cry. How could the biased walk alone? Beyond the mist, on the grey islet, egrets roost. Within the light, no sharp tip is yet presaged; when concealed, its horns tower prominently. If combining and harmonizing are the least bit neglected, you will immediately see yourself meeting the blade and wounding your hands. When the function of the six sense-gates ceases, you must flexibly approach from the side. When the merit of one color is complete, be most careful not to stamp through it straight on. With a dreaming hand, push open the moonlit door; turning the body, tilt the jade wheel aside. Only then can it emerge from your own breast; only then do you avoid sitting on another's bed. The mud ox taking steps already sprouts the conditions for establishing transformation; the wooden horse neighing into the wind is precisely the matter of benefiting sentient beings. How can one tread so as to attain such correspondence?" / After a long pause, he said, "Do you understand? / At midnight, stop playing with the fishing line; / The wind polishes the lake's light, water and moon in autumn."
