上堂舉夾山在溈山。作典坐。一日溈問。今日喫甚麼菜。夾云。二年同一春。溈云。好好修事著。夾云。龍宿鳳巢。師云。尊賓互換。枝葉敷榮。青白未痕。晦明㳷合。諸人還辨得麼。良久云。偏正不曾離本位。無生那涉語因緣。

Ascending the hall, [the Master] cited: "Jiashan was at Guishan serving as the tenzo (cook). One day, Guishan asked, 'What vegetables are we eating today?' Jiashan said, 'Two years share the same spring.' Guishan said, 'Prepare them well.' Jiashan said, 'The dragon roosts in the phoenix's nest.'" The Master said: "Host and guest interchange; branches and leaves flourish. Green and white leave no trace; dark and bright blend seamlessly. Can you distinguish it?" After a long pause, he said: "Bias and upright never leave their original positions; / How could the unborn be involved with verbal conditions?"
