舉進山主問修山主云。明知生不生性。為什麼為生之所留。修云。筍畢竟成竹。如今作篾使還得麼。進云。汝向後自悟在。修云。某甲只如此。上座意旨如何。進云。遮箇是監院房。那箇是典座房。修便禮拜。頌曰。

Mountain Master Jin asked Mountain Master Xiu: "Clearly knowing the nature that is unborn and undying, why is one detained by birth?" / Xiu said: "Bamboo shoots will ultimately become bamboo; can they be used as bamboo strips right now?" / Jin said: "You will awaken on your own later." / Xiu said: "I am only like this; what is the Senior Monk's meaning?" / Jin said: "This one is the monastery director's room, and that one is the chief cook's room." / Xiu then bowed. / The verse says:
