Changsha sent a monk to ask Master Hui: "How was it before meeting Nanquan?"
Hui remained silent for a long time.
The monk said: "How was it after meeting him?"
Hui said: "It could not be anything other."
The monk returned and cited this to Changsha.
Changsha said: "The man sitting atop a hundred-foot pole,
Though he has gained entry, is not yet true.
Atop a hundred-foot pole, he must step forward:
The worlds of the ten directions are his entire body."
The monk said: "How does one step forward atop a hundred-foot pole?"
Changsha said: "The mountains of Langzhou, the waters of Lizhou."
The monk said: "I do not understand."
Changsha said: "The four seas and five lakes are within the royal transformation."
