舉溈山問仰山。甚處來。仰云。田中來。山云。田中多少人。仰插下鍬子。叉手而立。山云。南山大有人刈茆。仰拈鍬子便行。頌曰。
Case: Guishan asked Yangshan, "Where have you come from?" Yangshan said, "From the fields." Guishan said, "How many people are there in the fields?" Yangshan stuck down his hoe, folded his hands, and stood there. Guishan said, "On the southern mountain there are many people mowing thatch." Yangshan picked up his hoe and walked away. The verse says:
