3.100

舉布袋和尚頌云。彌勒真彌勒師云。拶破面門。分身千百億。師云。築著鼻孔。時時示時人。師云。高著眼。時人皆不識。師云。當面諱却。師復云。憨皮袋欄街截巷。直是無迴避處。還辨得麼。腦後見腮莫與往來。

He cited: Master Budai’s verse says: / “Maitreya, true Maitreya,” / The Master said: “Pushed right in the face.” / “Dividing his body into hundreds of thousands of koṭis,” / The Master said: “Striking right on the nostrils.” / “Constantly revealing himself to people of the time,” / The Master said: “Keep your eyes raised high.” / “Yet people of the time do not recognize him.” / The Master said: “Denying it right to their faces.” / The Master also said: “The silly leather bag blocks the street and cuts off the alley; there is truly nowhere to avoid him. Can you distinguish him? When the cheeks can be seen from behind the skull, do not associate with him.”
